In the next room, another photographer and a model friend were shooting some deliciously dark Gothic stuff. But where I was, the light was flooding the room, and these doors, being used as a screen to separate living quarters, called out for attention.

With five decades of photography under my belt, I've been involved with just about all forms of photography. My photos have been published in books, magazines and newspapers, displayed on Web sites from Paris to Tokyo and shown in galleries in Arizona, New York, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia. Two museum showings at the Butler Institute of American Art (2004 and 2008) in Youngstown were among the highlights. I was born in Virginia, schooled in North Carolina and worked in Virginia and Ohio as a journalist.
