About Michael McGowan
With four decades of photography under my belt, I've been involved with just about all forms of photography. My photos have been published in books, magazines and newspapers, displayed on Web sites from Paris to Tokyo and shown in galleries in New York, Ohio, North Carolina and Virginia. Two museum showings at the Butler Institute of American Art (2004 and 2008) in Youngstown were among the highlights.
I was born in Virginia, schooled in North Carolina and worked in Virginia and Ohio as a journalist. Throughout my working life, I've also produced art photos, even when art photography didn't garner much respect. As a juror for the Carolina Designer Craftsmen Guild in the late 1970s, I was at least partly responsible for their expanded emphasis on the design aspect rather than down-home crafts.
Today, I'm semi-retired and still shooting in Arizona, producing photos of things that grab my attention, whether it's a beautiful scene or an intriguing architectural statement.
For people interested in using photos for print projects or web purposes, please contact me directly. Or you can commission me for specific shoots to provide specialty images for you and your publications.
